गोपीनाथ सूचना प्रणाली एवं विश्लेषण क्षेत्र में सहायक प्रोफेसर हैं। उन्होंने भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (आईआईटी) मद्रास से पीएचडी की उपाधि प्राप्त की है। उन्होंने राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (एनआईटी) तिरुचिरापल्ली से एमबीए तथा अन्ना विश्वविद्यालय से कंप्यूटर विज्ञान में स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की है।
उन्हें उद्योग में पाँच वर्षों से अधिक का अनुभव है। उन्होंने इंफोसिस में सलाहकार के रूप में कार्य किया है, जहाँ वे व्यावसायिक विश्लेषण, आईटी परामर्श और समाधान डिज़ाइन से जुड़े रहे हैं।
उनकी व्यापक शोध रुचियों में ई-कॉमर्स, डिजिटल स्वास्थ्य, पहनने योग्य उपकरण तथा विघटनकारी प्रौद्योगिकियाँ शामिल हैं। वे नवीन प्रौद्योगिकियों के अपनाने, डिजिटल परिवर्तन तथा उनके विकास और उत्क्रमण का अध्ययन करने में विशेष रुचि रखते हैं। उनका शोध कार्य इंटरनेशनल जर्नल ऑफ़ इन्फॉर्मेशन मैनेजमेंट, कम्युनिकेशंस ऑफ़ द एसोसिएशन फ़ॉर इन्फॉर्मेशन सिस्टम्स, हेल्थ पॉलिसी एंड टेक्नोलॉजी तथा टेक्नोलॉजी एनालिसिस एंड स्ट्रैटेजिक मैनेजमेंट जैसी समकक्ष-समीक्षित अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशित हुआ है। उन्होंने अपने शोध कार्य को राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलनों में भी प्रस्तुत किया है।
