The faculty comprises permanent, visiting, and guest faculty of IIM Tiruchirappalli. Q21. When do I take the coursework for a focused area of study?

After completing the core courses of the programme satisfactorily at the end of Term IV, students will have a chance to do elective courses in a focus area they are interested in.

Q22. Will I be graded on my focused area of elective study?

Yes, all elective courses are graded in the same way as core courses.

Q23. What are the attendance requirements of this programme?

The Institute insists on regular and prompt attendance in classes. Students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions required in every course. The PGPBM Office will keep a record of attendance in all courses. However, students will be permitted to miss classes for unavoidable reasons (including personal and official reasons) up to one-fourth of the classes conducted in that course.
If a student happens to miss an examination due to unforeseen reasons, make-up examinations will be permitted for a maximum of two academic terms, provided the reasons are genuine, and evidence for the same has been produced. If a student misses more than 1/4th of the classes for any purpose, the student will be penalized with a grade point drop as listed below:

In the case of attendance falling below 50%, the student will be required to repeat the course. Since most courses have a continuous evaluation, students are strongly advised to be regular in attendance, as lack of attendance can severely affect their academic performance. For Terms 1 through 4, repeating the course would entail the student repeating the course the next year. For Terms 2 through 4, no student will be permitted to register for the term without completing all the requirements of the preceding terms.

Q24. Will I be allowed to study at the Chennai campus during the days when my classes are not scheduled?

Yes. You will be permitted to use designated areas of the Chennai campus for studying and carrying out other academic activities. However, you will be able to use the facilities only during the time the campus is open.

Q25. Can I take a break during the programme?

In exceptional circumstances, students are permitted to take breaks with the prior approval of the PGPBM Committee. However, all students should complete the requirements of the programme within 5 years from the date of admission to be eligible for the degree.

Q26. What if I miss an exam due to work travel or other unavoidable circumstances?

Since evaluation is continuous and includes multiple components, missing one does not put you at a disadvantage. If required, you may also avail up to two re-examination opportunities during the programme.

Q27. Will I get a certificate if I leave the course midway?

No. You will not receive any certificate if you decide to leave midway. You will only receive the grade sheet at the end of every term.
