Curriculum

The first year of the programme offers courses covering various disciplines exposing the students to different facets of business management. On completion of these core courses, the programme provides the option of choosing electives from a pool of specialized courses during the second year. The elective courses are designed to nurture future managers in the area of their interests, aligning them with their career goals and objectives. Students work on a Summer Internship assignment in an organization and also undertake ‘Make a Difference’ Team project as part of the curriculum.

Credits

Students enrolled in the PGPM are required to complete 96 credits made up of 51 credits in the 1st year and 45 in the 2nd year. The institute uses the concept of credit to define the weightage of a course in the curriculum. Courses are listed as one, two or three credit courses depending on the indicated workload for each course. The generally accepted thumb rule is that a three credit course involves about 100 hours of work, about 30% in the class room and the balance outside the class - in preparation and assignments. One and two credit courses would have a proportionately lesser workload.

‘Make a Difference’ Project

IIM Tiruchirappalli 's vision is to produce socially responsible corporate managers and leaders who also contribute to the immediate community of which they and their organizations are a part of.  IIM Tiruchirappalli believes that organizational leaders should engage with societal issues that affect their community and offer their organizational and managerial expertise in tackling these complex problems. There is also a growing recognition among the leaders of corporate world that they need to look beyond the immediate boundaries of their companies. Business leaders as ‘custodians of society’s most powerful institutions are increasingly expected to ‘reconnect business success with social progress’. Make a difference’ (MAD) project is conceived in this context. As part of this project, all the students of PGPM would work in teams of five or six on an issue of social importance. They work on a specific theme such as education, health etc., or work on a project with an organization like NGO etc. All projects should necessarily involve on-the-field component and should be carried out under the guidance of a faculty member. The projects are evaluated by faculty mentor and external experts. A satisfactory rating in the team project is a mandatory requirement for the graduation.
