BANIYA SHREYAS SANDEEP

BRIEF PROFILE

I am a second-year doctoral student in the Economics and Public Policy area at the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIM Trichy). Prior to this, I pursued my MBA in Rural Management, from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB).

My background of Science, Commerce (Accounting and Finance) and Rural Management has imparted versatility and insight in an interdisciplinary field, which I am keen on utilising for research on socio-economic and public policy issues.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

I draw my research interests from my work experience and ‘Individual Research Project (IRP)’ with field survey in Odisha villages, titled ‘Study of Crop Insurance in India – As a Welfare Measure and an Enabling Tool for Financial Inclusion of Farmers’ during my course work at XIMB. The paper deliberated on certain aspects of financing welfare schemes by the government and how accountability can be injected by channelizing these expenditures through subsidies in agriculture insurance to provide socio-economic security to farmers.

Through my research, I plan to further probe into the accountability mechanism in social policy or/and public finance and utilize my exposure to policy implementation on the ground to contribute towards better policy formulation and practices to address various urgent challenges.

Working as a Consultant for business development and project execution, I was involved in identification and on-boarding of institutional partners for tendering activities, documentation as part of the tendering activities, i.e., response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Expression of Interests (EOIs) floated by GoI Ministries, donor agencies and I/NGOs.

May 2014 – May 2015

Umadhuli People’s Wire Private Limited, Visakhapatnam

Working as Executive-In-Charge, I was involved in accounting, statutory compliances, administration, and matters related to sales tax, Pollution Control Board, District Industries Centre. I was the overall in charge for relocation and expansion of high tensile wire manufacturing unit and modernization of lubricant unit with the latest Pollution Control Board approved Technology.

Key Role: Resolving labour accident issue, settlement with labour union.

Sane & Enthusiast Volunteers’ Association of Calcutta (SEVAC), Kolkata

Working as a Volunteer, I was involved in imparting painting, art-craft and computer training to mentally ill patients at the rehabilitation unit of SEVAC, and store management.
