A Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow and an MBA from Madurai Kamaraj University, Prof. Suresh Paul Antony is a practitioner-academic.
He enthusiastically experiments with learner-centred methodologies, which he firmly believes in, rather than solely lectures. He underwent certification at Paris with StratX Simulations. Besides, he has attended the Global Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning and the Case Workshop at the Harvard Business School held in Boston and Shanghai.
Following a mid-career shift to academics in 1999, he served at XLRI [Jamshedpur], IIM [Kozhikode] and Thiagarajar School of Management [Madurai]. Likewise, he has held visiting academic appointments at the Asian Institute of Management [The Philippines], IIM [Lucknow], and Amrita School of Business [Coimbatore]. Besides, he has taught working executives in Singapore and Dubai.
Since 2012 with IIM Tiruchirappalli, SPA has taught two elective courses - Product & Brand Management and Strategic Marketing in Action, both taught using simulation and occasionally Services Marketing and Marketing Metrics for Growth.
His areas of research are marketing demographics and consumer vulnerability. He is actively engaged with the question of how, in comparison with younger age groups, elderly consumers respond to marketing stimuli.
SPA has undergone training in academic leadership in the UK. He has been actively involved in institution building at IIM Trichy and has made significant service contributions, especially during her formative years. Among others, he set up her Chennai Campus in 2012, where he launched the PGPBM for working executives, chaired the residential PGP at Trichy from 2013 to 2016, conducted her first four convocations, and introduced a social project 'Make a difference' in the curriculum, now a mandatory requirement for the award of the PGPM Diploma.
SPA's training and consulting interests lie in products, services, brands, and marketing strategy. He has worked with executives of leading organisations in Asia's private, public, and not-for-profit sectors on themes covering products, services, brands, customer centricity and marketing strategy. His recent engagements have been with the Textiles Division of Ramco and the Titan Company Ltd.
His 14 years of experience from 1985 across the automotive, financial services, direct selling, and music retailing industries spans business and consumer markets, as well as rural and urban.
The conceptual understanding gained through decades of reflection, learning, coaching, and consulting brings value to both boardrooms and classrooms in creating appropriate business strategies and developing customer orientation.
He loves to first listen to and then build conversations. With an ability to pick up on sensitive situations, he can help voice every stakeholder's emotions. He learns best by finding new tasks or projects to start, as well as by coaching. Opportunities to interact with people energise him. Choosing his commitments carefully, he focuses on what he enjoys doing. With a reputation for integrity, he stays faithful to his obligations.
As an Independent Director at Manappuram Home Finance Ltd., SPA chairs the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee and serves on two committees - Information Technology Strategy and Stakeholder Relationship & Securities Transfer.
