BRIEF PROFILE

I am a fifth year doctoral student in the Management Information Systems (MIS) area at the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIM Trichy). Through my doctoral thesis centred around Healthcare Information Technology (HIT), I engage with issues of significant social significance and hope to contribute to the theory and practice of healthcare in various ways.

My thesis delves into the challenges involved in implementing HIT, focusing particularly on the resistance it faces from doctors and on various issues around its integration in chronic healthcare management.

I am committed to a robust research program, beginning with a paper that has been published in an A rated (ABDC ranking) journal. Multiple other papers are at different stages of my research pipeline. I have attended various prestigious conferences such as the International Conference of Information Systems (ICIS) and the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS). I am scheduled to attend the ICIS-2018 doctoral consortium that invites a select pool of 40 candidates annually from across the globe.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research employs social theories to examine how the broader social context affects and gets affected by the implementation, adoption and diffusion of Information Technology (IT). In particular, I focus on the sociological context of Healthcare to examine IT related phenomena that include:

  1. Healthcare Information Technology Resistance: Focusing on challenges emanating from the role of healthcare professionals in implementing Healthcare Information Technology in their clinical practice.
  2. Self-care Technology: Use and challenges of using self-care from patients’ perspective.
  3. Information Technology in Chronic Care: Challenges emanating from patients as well as healthcare professionals’ usage of IT in Diabetes Care Management.
  4. Online Health Communities: Healthcare consumer’s engagement, issues around privacy and health specific factors.
