Dr. Anirban Som is an Associate Professor in the Marketing area and Chairperson (International Relations) at IIM Tiruchirappalli. He completed his PhD at Bond University, Australia, and earned his M.Sc. (Business) from the National University of Singapore. He holds an MBA degree from the ICFAI Business School (Hyderabad campus), India. After completing his MBA, he worked at HCL Infinet Ltd., India.

His areas of academic interest include consumer behavior, judgment and decision-making, and brand crisis management. Dr. Som has published research articles in FT-50 listed journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics (JBE) and in ABDC-listed top-tier journals including the Journal of Business Research (JBR), International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM), and the Australasian Marketing Journal (AMJ).

He has presented research papers at several leading international conferences, including the Australia & New Zealand Marketing Academy Conference, European Association for Consumer Research Conference, MARCON – IIM Calcutta, Association for Consumer Research (ACR) Asia Pacific Conference, and Association for Consumer Research (ACR) North America.

Dr. Som currently teaches doctoral- and MBA-level courses in the marketing area at IIM Trichy. He has also served as Programme Director and Course Instructor for several Management Development Programmes conducted for leading corporations.

As Chairperson (International Relations), he is responsible for developing academic collaborations with foreign universities for student exchange, faculty exchange, and joint research initiatives. He has received several scholarships and awards, including a Dean’s Scholarship at Bond University and an AUD 5,000 research grant for research excellence. He was also awarded the NUS Research Scholarship for his master’s studies at the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Som enjoys interacting with people and is an avid follower of sports such as cricket, soccer, and table tennis.

  • Facilitated Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for exchange programs with leading international universities, including the University of Scranton (USA), Dalhousie University (Canada), George Mason University (USA), IMISP Saint Petersburg (Russia), EM Normandie Business School (France), and Bond University (Australia).
  • Organized International Relations Week 2022, featuring 27 short courses delivered online by 25 faculty members from reputed international universities across Canada, USA, UK, Australia, France, and Russia.
  • Organized International Relations Week 2023, featuring 10 short courses delivered in person at the IIM Tiruchirappalli campus by 10 faculty members from renowned international universities across Australia, USA, France, and Russia.
  • Organized International Relations Week 2024, featuring 11 short courses delivered in person at the IIM Tiruchirappalli campus by 9 faculty members from leading international universities across Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, and the USA.
