Dr. Varun Mahajan is currently working as an Assistant Professor Grade I in the Economics and Public Policy area at IIM Trichy. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India. Prior to joining IIM Trichy, he worked as an Assistant Professor at IBS Hyderabad. He received his M.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics with distinction from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship by the UGC for his Ph.D. studies.

He has around 12 years of experience in research and teaching, including five years of full-time research experience as a Research Scholar in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Roorkee. His teaching interests include Microeconomics (Managerial Economics), Game Theory, and Innovation Economics.

His research interests include Industrial Economics, Data Envelopment Analysis, Efficiency, Productivity, the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry, and Applied Econometrics. He has published several research papers in refereed national and international journals indexed in ABDC, Scopus, and Web of Science. In addition, he has presented his work at various national and international conferences and has served as a reviewer for several reputed academic journals.
