Strategy and Entrepreneurship

Fellow (IIM Kozhikode), B.E. (Hons.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (BITS, Pilani)

Mukundhan is Associate Professor and Area Chairperson of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at IIM Tiruchirappalli. His research sits at the intersection of three questions: how entrepreneurs shape the institutional environments in which they build ventures, how established firms reinvent themselves as their competitive advantages erode, and how emerging market multinationals navigate institutional complexity as they expand abroad. His work appears in journals including the Journal of World Business and the Journal of Business Research, and he presents regularly at conferences organized by the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business, and the Strategic Management Society.

He has worked with senior leadership teams on strategic transformation across automotive, banking, construction, manufacturing, extractives, consumer goods, and financial services. Much of this work has involved helping organizations make sense of changing competitive conditions and translate strategic choices into action.

Before academia, he worked at Samsung Electronics and at Evalueserve, where he supported Microsoft on patent analytics and competitive intelligence. The work exposed him to how firms gather and interpret information about shifting competitive terrain.

His work also extends beyond the corporate world. He has run strategy workshops in Tamil for micro-entrepreneurs and self-help groups under state livelihood missions, trained aspiring entrepreneurs from marginalized communities through national and grassroots enterprise-development organizations, and completed a consulting engagement helping sanitation workers in Tiruchirappalli transition into entrepreneurship.
